Over SUMMER we will be training on the 8th floor, in the Bush House South-East wing, in activity room D, from 6pm to 8pm. We will be holding No-Gi sessions of Fridays, which means just come in whatever comfortable sportswear you would like, and will be holding open mat sessions on Mondays and Wednesday at the same time, where we train in the Gi, which is the traditional kimono worn in other TMA's like karate/judo etc. These two sessions will be held without formal instruction, and is more of a chance to spar and practice techniques in your own time, so may not be good for beginners, however, please feel free to come along and give it a go!
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that emphasises attacks from the ground and on the back, which, for other martial arts, is a weak/vunerable position. It relies on technique rather than strength to defend, control and then submit your opponent, so anyone of any body type can see success with the moves and techniques and apply them to practical self-defence scenarios outside of the gym (though try not to go around assaulting your friends with armbars).
BJJ is a really fun sport no matter what your goals are, whether you want to enjoy it as a hobby or take it competitively, it's entirely up to you, so give it a go, and see if you like it!
