As a society we bring together everyone who has an interest in the Classical / Ancient World and entice those who haven’t and while we have close links to the Classics Department we are not an exclusive society. Aside from the standard modern-day socialising while dressed in typical Roman attire (visiting the convenient number of Classically named venues of London) and the end of term parties, we have guest lectures on a variety of, usually entertaining, topics, pub quizzes, museum visits and we also aim to have a trip to Hadrian’s Wall along with the Annual Summer trip to anywhere exotic that has some Classical link. We have good links with the Classics Societies of UCL and Royal Holloway and we annually compete with them to determine who is the funniest and most “learned” with the Comedy / Quiz Night. In essence, we provide an opportunity to socialise and get to know people from all degree disciplines while celebrating the wonders of the Classical World and nobody looks as good in a hastily made bed sheet toga than we do.

We often meet up on a regular basis just as a social gathering – which usually involves a few drinks, a pub quiz, shameless plugging of upcoming events and togas. We have a big(ger) party at the end of every term and then every couple of weeks we aim to have a cultural event whether it be a guest lecture, careers evenings involving the Classical world, museum trips etc. There is also the famous KCL vs UCL vs Royal Holloway Pub Quiz / Comedy Night and Summer Trip to somewhere exotic and much warmer than the UK.No dates are confirmed for next year but we can confirm that next year’s trip will be to Athens.
