End of clubsoc.kclsu.org email service
Over the last 2 years, KCLSU has been phasing out the provision of forwarding email addresses (for student groups) that ends in "@clubsoc.kclsu.org". The final push was made today, and any "clubsoc" email addresses on the A-Z listing were removed. The vast majority of groups have taken KCLSU's advice and opened a generic email account of their own (e.g. with Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail etc.) so that it can be passed on easily from year to year.
The following groups were affect and need to advise sa@kclsu.org of their new generic email address that they would like listed on the A-Z:
Clubs Jitsu Karate KCL Badminton KCL Men's Hockey KCL Women's Hockey KCL Women's Rugby KCLMS Men's Rugby KCLMS Women's Cricket Ultimate
Societies Anaesthetics Asian Dead Parrot General Practice Hellenic India Iranian Persian Islamic Jain Malaysian & Singapore Mauritian MedSIN MUN Restaurant Sri Lanken

Clubs & Society In Focus - we await your news
We have created a new space on the club and society pages of the KCLSU website called clubs / societies in focus. It is a small space where we can post news about clubs or societies. May be a sporting team has had a recent triumph or a society has launched a new initiative or has a special project happening.
Please let us have any news about you club or society that you would like to have publicised and we will publish the most newsworthy ones.
Look forward to hearing from you at sa@kclsu.org

Web Site of the Month
Each month we like to select a website of the month that we think is worth recognition. Maybe it is a website that a club or society has revamped or relaunched. Or it might be a new addition to a club or society. It might provide fantastic information or just look amazing.
Please e-mail sa@kclsu.org with your nominations for the October website of the month and why you think it is worthy of the spotlight. And yes you can nominate your own website if you like, just tell us why it is so good!!

Projectors for use available from the Student Centres
In all three Student Centres, there are now projectors for hire by our student groups, free of charge. This is because our student groups spend a fortune each year on hiring AV equipment from the KCL AV Dept, and this way we save lots of money. The projectors are in black soft cases, labelled clearly 1-6. Accompanying each, is a clearly labelled KCLSU academic diary (e.g. with Booking Diary for Projector 4' on it).
THESE PROJECTORS ARE AVAILABLE TO HIRE AS OF NOW.
On the first page of the diary, there is a set of instructions about how groups can book the projectors. In short, when a student asks at a Student Centre to BOOK a projector, they need to look in the projector booking diary(s), see whether it is available by turning to the date(s) they wish to book for, and then follow the instructions on the first page of the diary. Please familarise yourself with the booking instructions - they are straight forward.
When a student comes to COLLECT a projector (that they have booked), Student Centre staff ask for a form of ID from the student to be kept IN EXCHANGE for the projector. This ID should be put into the envelope on the front inside cover of the relevant diary.
When a student comes to RETURN a projector, Student Centre staff will quickly visually check the status of the projector - to ensure that it has been returned in a suitable condition, with all the cables etc etc. Assuming all is well, Student Centre staff will then store the projector, and return the ID from the envelope on the front inside cover of the diary.
FAQs A student has come to borrow the projector but doesn't have any ID, can they still borrow it? No. Without ID, we can't be sure that we will get our (reasonably expensive) projectors back!
If the projector isn't booked in advance, and a student wants to borrow it now, can it be lent out to them there and then? Yes once they have completed a 'booking' in the diary and checked it is not already booked by someone else. We have to ensure that we know who has got the projectors at all times, and when they are due back, which is what the booking diary is for. Again, ID will be needed to secure against the return of the projector: if you don't have ID, you can't hire the projector.
Someone with a different name to the person who made the booking has come to collect the projector, can it still be lent it to them? As long as this person matches the group in the diary for that booking, then yes it can be lent out; if not, then no. For each booking, the person booking it needs to record when they are coming to pick it up, who they are, which group they are from (e.g. 'Abacus Society'), and the latest that they will return the projector.

E-mailing Members
When you are e-mailing members to let them know about activities and events please don't put all the names into the "to" box, as this discloses all the addresses on the list. > People are then copying the lists and using it for their own promotional gain, eg promoting night clubs and other ventures. > Please put your members addresses in the BCC box, where they are not disclosed. > >

Roar | the KCLSU magazine
This year Roar is being launched as a glossy magazine, packed with news about the College, all forms of student activity, higher education and more. We hope to feature articles, features and photographs from as many students as possible.
In particular we are eager to celebrate the achievements of campaigns, clubs, societies and volunteering, and what better way to do so than for those involved to tell the story in their own words.
The first issue will be out around campus from 23 October, and we would like to begin with the following kinds of features:
* short summaries about new groups * plans for the year, especially any large events you have planned * longer pieces covering what your group did last year and how you plan to continue on that work this year * details of any awards or similar you have achieved in the past year
Also, from every group we would really like to have a single goal for the year - your priority, the thing you really want to achieve. We can then list them all in some fancy format as a way of increasing interest.
The deadline for submissions is 9 October, so if you're interested, put something together and send it back to dan.sumners@kclsu.org

Wednseday Afternoon Lectures - Please let us know
To all Student Activity Group Leaders,
KCLSU has been made aware of the fact that lectures are still taking place on Wednesday afternoons. We have prompted the College to look into this problem and it appears that the College is very keen to stamp this problem out. It is really important that we get as much information as possible about the students that are having ongoing problems. The official College line is that lectures should not be taking place after 1pm on a Wednesday afternoon, therefore we need you, as group leaders to get the following information:
Name of student The course module name and ID number The name of the lecturer holding lectures after 1pm on Wednesdays
Please let us know at sa@kclsu.org
