Congratulations to KCLSU Award winners

The winners of Student Activity Awards are now available online. Congratulations to all our winners! The winners of the main and group awards (e.g. Volunteer of the Year, President of the Year, Club of the Year etc.) will be announced at the KCLSU Awards Ceremony on the 24th of May 2006.

Presidents – please contact your club or society members who have received awards and let them know they can collect them from the Student Centres – GKT teams and Medical
societies from Guys, KCL teams from the Strand. All other society certificates will be left at the Strand Student Centres unless you have instructed Student Activities that they are to be picked up at Guys.

Grant allocations

Grant allocations have now been confirmed for 06/07 - you can find out full details for your club or society by looking at your grant application on the A-Z listings on www.kclsu.org.

KCLSU officers and staff considered each grant application form carefully and 'authorised' as much as they felt they were able to. A set of policies were written down that steered the officers and staff decisions (available from the downloads section of the Committee webpages). All of the authorised totals for each group were then added up to give the grand total of authorised expenses.

Unfortunately - as has been the case for many years due to the growth of clubs and societies - we were unable to allocate funding for 100% of the total authorised expenses. KCLSU Student Representative Council passed the 06/07 budget for KCLSU as a whole that meant KCLSU will fund 69% of all authorised expenditure. This means that your club or society needs to generate the remaining 31% yourselves through membership fees, sponsorship deals, and profits.

If you believe your grant has been unfairly or incorrectly allocated, you may submit an offical appeal in writing (email) by Friday 19th May 2006 to sa@kclsu.org. The Appeals Committee will meet on Thursday 8th of June and a representative of your club/society will be expected to attend and give a thorough presentation of your case. The Committee will consist of Fran Doran (VP Student Activities), Emma Wynne (VP Education & Representation) and Lee Peterson (VP Sites & Services). Note that the funds for any successful appeal will come from other club and society grant allocations - there is not a special pot of money for appeals!

Committee handovers

You should all be well on the way to having appointed a new committee for your club or society for next year. Whether you are an incoming or an outgoing President, we have devised a handbook to help with the handover process and see your new committees through to September 06 when they will be fully trained.

It's entitled 'Surviving Your Handover 2005'. Don’t forget to e-mail your new committee details to us at sa@kclsu.org so we can update our records and communicate with the correct people!
