Current campaigns

Listed below are campaigns undertaken by both the KCLSU officers and various student groups. All are therefore run by students, with the aim of improving King's College London, London, the United Kingdom, and the world for the students of King's.

Admission Impossible
KCLSU believes that education is integral to the success of all societies - for economic growth, the protection of the most vulnerable, and the development of our global community. We therefore also believe that education should be fully state funded. Add your name to our pledge list and make YOUR stand against top-up fees.
Christain Aid
Christian Aid believes that it is essential to tackle the underlying causes of poverty. Many of the key decisions that affect poor countries and poor communities, and that can sometimes create poverty, are made by politicians and business leaders in the rich world. This student campaign ties in with many others - it's through uniting under these similar causes that student campaigning groups become even more effective.
Control Arms
After three years' hard work by Control Arms campaigners all around the world, the UN voted in October 2006 in favour of a resolution to start work on an Arms Trade Treaty. KCLSU Amnesty International group have been campaigning for this resolution, it's through work that they do that governments start to listen.
Ethical student
KCLSU students are becoming more aware of how their actions directly affect the world they live in. Students around the world have the power to influence and change their environment. Even simple decisions of where you shop and what you buy can have a major impact on others.
Fairtrade
King's College London is the latest higher education institution to have been awarded Fairtrade University status by the Fairtrade Foundation. The achievement was the culmination of a two year partnership between King's College London, the King’s College London People & Planet group, and KCLSU.
LGBT
The KCLSU LGBT group helps organise the interested student community to lobby effectively on LGBT issues that affect the wider public as well as campaigning within the College. This is acheived by providing a forum for students with varying sexual orientations to come together in a comfortable environment.
Marrow
It is estimated that a marrow or cord blood transplant could benefit more than 35,000 children and adults with life-threatening diseases each year. Only 30% of these patients will find a matched donor in their own family. The remaining 70% can turn to the National Marrow Donor Program. A group at King's have already registered over 500 students for this program.
Protect the human
Amnesty International's biggest campaign is based on a movement of ordinary people from around the world standing up for humanity and human rights. This KCLSU student group believe that people should be treated like people. It's amazing how often they aren't.
Stop Aids
Currently 40 million people worldwide our living with HIV or Aids. Student Stop Aids groups across the country take it upon themselves to raise awareness of the issues in the lead-up to World Aids Day: Friday 1 December 2006. The KCLSU group is no exception; planning speaker tours, events and vigils to mark the occasion.
Stop violence against women
From birth to death, in times of peace as well as war, women face discrimination and violence at the hands of the state, the community and the family. The KCLSU Amnesty International group petition national leaders to stop this discrimination and encourage them to face-up to their humanitarian responsibilities.
Unicef
For many children around the world, their early years are far from the safe, supportive environment they require to give them the best possible start in life. This relatively new KCLSU campaign group has the responsibility of making 'child' poverty history.
Water aid
WaterAid is an international charity dedicated to helping people escape the stranglehold of poverty and disease caused by living without safe water and sanitation. KCLSU WaterAid raise awareness of the issues surrounding poor people's lack of access to water and sanitation by supporting campaigning activities.
