Mitigating circumstances
Mitigating circumstances are external problems that can affect your performance
in exams or coursework, such as illness or the death
of a close relative.
If they know about such problems, the College
are usually sympathetic and will do all they can to help you.
Complete the Mitigating Circumstances Form to let them know about them.
Things to remember - If you have an
illness or disability that might affect your ability to sit the
exam under normal conditions, contact the Special Examinations Officer,
matt.evans@kcl.ac.uk . (NB this does not simply mean extra time
for conditions such as dyslexia. For example, if you have diabetes
you might be able to take short breaks to eat throughout the exam).
- If the results have already been published and you feel that mitigating
circumstances affected your exam performance, ask for an EDR1 form
from KCLSU. This must be filled in within fourteen days of the examination
results being published. You should prove that you were not able to
tell the examiners about the circumstances beforehand, e.g. if a parent
was admitted to hospital the night before the exam, or you were ill
on the day.
